Shahbuz district in situated in the north of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Landscape of the district is mountainous. The highest points are Salvarti, Kechaldag (3115 m) (3160 m) and Kukuldag (3120 m) mountains. Mountain pass Bichanak is in the territory of the district. There are mineral fields in the district: fields of sulfur, peat, and construction materials. The district is rich of the springs - Badamli, Bichanak, Batabat, and Caravansara etc. Climate is hot in summer and cold in winter. Nakhchivanchay River and its inflows Salvarti, Kuku, Shahbuz Rivers run in the territory of the district. There are Batabat, Ganligol lakes etc. Such trees as oak, beech, hornbeam grow in the forests. Fauna is represented with animals, such as bear, mountain goat, lynx, boar, wolf, fox etc. Administrative center of the district is a city of Shahbuz. Sites of the ancient human have been found not far from the city. Extraordinary living place consisting of 4 rooms and verandah is made in the rock wall called in the city "Farhad's house" - named after famous hero of Nizami poem, who had a channel through the rock to give water to his lover Shirin. Archeologists discovered remains of the powerful "Shahpur" fortress named after the ruler in other place. This name was transformed and called Shahbuz later. Resort of "Badamli" is located at the heigth of 1400 meters in the picturesque place of nature. There is Badamli spring water bottling plant here. Garabaglar village, in the outskirts of which constructions of the famous mausoleum locate, is at the foot of Zengezur range. Nets of fortresses with towers furcated water-supply system running from the mountains - all of this says about large city settlement existing here in former times. To all appearances, Garabaglar city notice in XVII century relates to it, which was wallowed in the gardens and had lots of various constructions - 10 000 houses, 70 mosques, 40 out of which were with the minarets etc. The saved buildings - minarets and mausoleums impress nowadays as well.
