Zangilan district is situated at extreme southwest of Azerbaijan and being stretched out alongside Araz River. In the south, the area is bounded with Iran. Administrative district center - Zangilan city, having been allocated on Okhchu-chay River. On the territory of Zangilan area there is allocated important railroad station Minjivan. There was formed Basitchay wildlife sanctuary for protection appreciable flora and fauna of the district.
