The district and its administrative center, since 1967 Jalilabad city have been carrying name of outstanding Azerbaijan writer Jalil Mammedguluzadeh. First, city was called Khasilli, and after it was called Astrakhan-bazar. In the west, the area is bounded with Iran. It is specific for Jalilabad to have lower mountain and terrain. Mid temperature in winter makes +3 C, in summer +27 C.
Along the territory of the area, there are flowing rivers of Bolgarchay, Misharchay, Injachay, and Geytepechay. 14700 Hectares of terrain are being occupied with forests.
In woods, there are a lot of animals and birds. Here it is inhabited hares, badgers, foxes. Wolfs wild bores; among birds there are met wild geese, ducks, eagles, turajs etc. Jalilabad district is one of the largest centers of grape farming in the country.
Having entered into Jalilabad city, from the left side it was seen not big hills. Here, while making diggings were found out granite mortar, clay jugs, labor weapons and household articles of eneolith period. Scientists consider that before Amashara city existed here. Its habitants - magic men, they had skills to cook khaoma beverage, being taken from grape, pomegranate and greenery, which by their point of view could rescue man from many disorders. In the southern part of city, there is small museum, being allocated near local fair. It is western part of city around beautiful park, there some of official buildings were allocated.
