Astara city
Astara district is allocated at the southern - east of the country, on the border with Iran. That is one of the beautiful areas of the republic. Part of the area territory is occupied by Talish Mountains, part's - bottoms. Astarachay and Tengerud rivers takes its outset higher in mountains and are fallen down onto Caspian Sea. Forests covered 37000 hectares of the territory. Picturesque Talish Mountains always charmed way farer by its unrepeatable beauty and freshness. French painter, Alberto Pepin, having been stayed at those land in 1886 in conjunction with his fellowman-traveler Gabriel Bonvalut had engraved in his piece of work, Talish mountains, marvelous landscape, life and homehold, culture, folkways and customs, garment of local habitants. Talish Mountains are covered with thick wood, main part of which constitute relict trees such as oak, demiragaj (ferrous tree). Rigid wood of the ferrous tree is used for manufacturing of textile machine tools, dugout, and details for textile industry. Here, there are widen such as wild quince, mushmula, May-flower. Black-berry, silky acacia with pink colors, eternal green butcher's broom; among of family of lianas: sarsaparilla, ivy. Fauna of Talish forests is luxuriant and diverse. Therein wolfs lynxes, deer, roes, porcupines and other animals are being habituated. In the district on the seashore, there are many splendid beaches, and water is pure and transparent. Roadway leading from Lankaran towards Astara is extremely picturesque: woody mountains and subtropics. In the left side, there is Girkan national park allocated on littoral narrow line, where are being stored relict trees: ferrous tree, zelkova and others. The area is considered one of the main tea farming, citrus, remedial water, being called among nation as Assadulla-Bulagi. Here, we may observe interesting phenomenon: whilst burning match being brought in, fired "fountain" is flashed out. In Astara district as well as on another side from the border, many Talish men is still living - representatives of the people being referred to Iranian language group. On the territory of the area there were found out ancient refinements - tumulus. Having discovered therein articles - instrument of labor and hunting, which show on that in those places that population were involved in "metallurgy" in epoch of bronze and ferrous periods. On the territory of the area there were kept more than 400 memorials of the history, majority of them - in mountain villages. Among them the might call tower in Shindan village being known among people as Babek Tower, tower in Nidus village, Mausoleum of XII century allocated in the Shakhagay village, mosque of Haji Teymur and being belonged of Haji Jakhan Bakhish, bath house of Meshadi Abutalib - in Pensar village, bathouse of Karbalai Hamid Abdulla - in Archivan village. In Gapichimahalla village, there still exist caravanserai, of VII century, necropolic of III-I centuries, ruins of ancient fortress, mausoleum, statues, being related to Bronze and Stone Ages. Astara city - small picturesque city-port. Astara city is situated nearby6 Talish Mountains and surrounded with rice plantations. Astara is important transit point on the way Baku - Tehran. In the city there is Museum of Regional Studies, in which were collected numerous findings, having been discovered at the territory of the area: coins, stone instrument of labor.
